Matilda was surrendered to a local high kill shelter after being found as a stray with a terrible open wound to her foot. We swooped in as soon as we saw her injury and sweet face. PPR immediately noticed that she needed vet care right away. It was at the ER that we found Matilda had a spinal injury causing her spine to fuse and compress the spinal cord. Her one back leg was already amputated and her remaining leg needed removed as well due to weakness, a wound that wouldn't heal on her paw, and her inability to properly use that back leg. Matilda was spayed and had the amputation quickly. This 2 year old, 12 pound sweetheart recovered in no time and lives each day as if there is not a care in the world. She has a special wheelchair that she is learning to use, but is able to walk and even run on her front legs. Unfortunately, the spinal injury left her incontinent of bowel and bladder. She needs expressed a few times a day and wears a onsie with poise pads in to catch any leaking urine. Matilda doesn't know she is special needs and acts just like a young dog should. She loves to run with the other dogs, play with toys, and get as much attention as she can. She can be walked on a leash, is crate trained, and does well in a car. She is all fixed up and now she needs a family of her own!
